About the Foundation
Gus was a creative soul who loved anime, gaming, and art. He had a remarkable talent for drawing and crafting art from simple materials like paper and wire. He adored children and cherished time spent with his young cousins whenever they visited. Born in the Ivory Coast during the Liberian war, Gus later spent three formative years in Liberia as a teenager, graduating from Don Bosco Polytechnic High School. During that time, he made many friends and created cherished memories—like riding the "pen-pen" motorbikes. He valued the simplicity of life in Monrovia and often spoke of wanting to live there someday.
We established the Augustus E. Richardson Memorial (ARM) Foundation to honor Gus’s legacy of love, friendship, and compassion for others in Liberia, a place he held dear and where the need is immense. Due to the absence of safety net programs and limited economic opportunities, it is challenging for many parents to provide their children with essentials like food, clothing, healthcare, and education. As a result, many children and families live on the margins of society, lacking the cognitive tools and skills needed to navigate life and become self-sufficient adults.
Between April 12 and April 15, 2022, our beloved Gus passed away suddenly, just two weeks before his 27th birthday, due to complications from diabetes mellitus. His loss left an immense void in our lives. Gus was kind, loving, humble, and gentle; he truly cared for everyone he met and was always willing to help those in need. He had unwavering faith in people’s goodness, took others at their word, and gave everyone a chance. His life remains a blessing and an enduring example of love through giving, serving, and helping others. Gus’s legacy lives on in how he lived—simply, peacefully, and with a heart full of love. He taught us what truly matters in life: to love, as 1 John 3:18 reminds us—not merely in words, but in actions.
